10 Things I'm Loving Right Now
little treats getting me through the summer slog.
I want to have a hot girl summer but it’s too dang hot. I know we’re collectively melting around the globe, so I won’t waste time complaining about the weather here. But as I try to be present and enjoy the temporary slowed-down pace at work, I’m in an energy slump. I’d like to hibernate in my blessedly air conditioned home, eat snacks and watch old episodes of X-Files and Dance Moms, and re-emerge late September-ish.
If you’re also slogging through the season, I rounded up 10 little treats that are getting me get through these dog days of summer.
Mike’s Hot Honey. Like the little granny in the Franks Red Hot commercial, I put that sh*t on everything: pizza, grilled chicken, roasted veggies, charcuterie, toasted sourdough with salted butter, and basically anything fried. Buy it on Amazon and get the two-pack while you’re at it.
The one-pot pasta craze started on TikTok, but like the elder millennial I am, I learned about it from YouTube. (Specifically, this video by Joshua Weissmann.) I make Martha’s version at least once a week.
BA’s ‘easy-to-love’ chicken thighs and couscous’ is also on regular rotation in our summertime grilling menu. Bonus: it makes delicious leftovers for a packed lunch the next day.
Last month, Instacart brought me 5 bunches of bananas instead of the 5 single bananas I ordered, so when the time came to turn the bounty into banana bread, I used my old faithful recipe. But this time I added a heaping handful of milk chocolate chunks to the batter and my life is changed.
